Types of decanters

There are various types of decanters available, depending upon the type of the wine. This is why you need to be watchful before purchasing one. For the decantation of full-bodied red wines, decanters with a wide base are suggested. For medium-bodied red wines, you must purchase medium-sized decanters and for light-bodied wines, choose chilled small-sized decanters. Though White and Rose’s wines do not need decantation, you can still opt for a small-sized decanter.

How to use decanters

While pouring wine into a decanter, you must make sure that it touches the side of the glass, so that the surface of the wine gets the much-needed exposure to oxygen.

The time required

The entire process of decantation takes around 40 minutes on average, ranging from 15 to 180 minutes. Full-bodied wines can take 1-2 hours to get decanted. But, on the other hand, cheap wines take about 20 minutes for decantation and the old red wines require almost 2 hours.
